As reported by the Tobago News, ”Attorney General Bridgid Annisette-George has stated that the Scarborough Library currently being built was "totally out of alignment" and wanted the project "really investigated". She said she was concerned when she visited Tobago and saw the proposed library, which should have been completed by now. "We need to find out what has been happening. I am told that the building is totally out of alignment. I want to find out why," the Attorney General told the House of Representatives on May 23, 2008 during debate on the move by Government to appoint a Joint Select Committee (JSC) of Parliament to probe the State-owned Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT). Prime Minister Patrick Manning later announced at the sitting that a Commission of Enquiry would instead be appointed not only to investigate UDeCOTT but the construction industry. “ She further attempted to lambaste the Contractor stating “"When we talk about UDeCott, the building is out of alignment and cannot be finished because of that. He (Mikey Joseph of Structural and Mechanical Agencies Limited) is the head of the Contractors Association and he is talking about UDeCott. We really need to look in the widest sense and that is why we want the joint select committee. We need to look into, not just UDeCott, but all the contractors and subcontractors who UDeCott have to manage; the bad and defective work that is denying the people of Trinidad and Tobago what they deserve
On Friday 13th June 2008, according to the Tobago News "In November 2007, Romain & Associates Limited submitted to UDeCOTT a letter of certification approving the remedial welding works carried out by the contractor. The issue of the plumbing of the building has therefore been corrected and certified by the consulting engineer. “ It is obvious that Attorney General Bridgid Annisette-George did not speak the truth when she said she visited the Library during her supposed trip to Tobago and observed the non-conforming work, for this was corrected, certified and a letter sent to UDeCott since November 2007. It is a really sad state of affairs when the Attorney General will go before the Nation and blatantly lie. Is this the person we want responsible for our judiciary. She should do the honourable thing and resign.
